Debbie Miles

Debbie has teaching experience across the primary phase as a class teacher and a literacy co-ordinator. In 1999 she trained as a Reading Recovery Teacher working in an inner-city School in Bristol. In 2005 she joined Bristol LA school improvement team to lead on the ‘Every Child a Reader’ (ECaR) project. During this time, she completed an MA in Literacy Learning & Literacy Difficulties at the IOE, University College London and became a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader/Teaching & Learning Consultant. She has a wealth of experience of delivering high quality assured literacy intervention programmes across the South West of England.

In 2018-2020 Debbie represented Bristol LA in an EU transnational exchange of innovative practices regarding reading, literacy and language development.  She worked alongside teams from Sweden, Belgium, Italy and Finland. The project created opportunities to develop, test and implement new skills and methods to support vulnerable families.

Debbie has been delivering BR@P & BR@S for over 10 years, she has trained teachers, teaching assistants, university students and volunteers in this highly effective programme and she sees it as an honour to take on the role as one of the National Trainers.
