Education Works consultant Rebecca (Bex) Shore

Tailored consultancy to improve reading standards and create confident readers.

Rebecca (Bex) Shore

Bex has many years of experience as a teacher teaching all ages across the primary phases. She became the Reading Recovery Teacher Leader & Every Child a Reader (ECAR) Adviser for Portsmouth in 2009 and has supported many schools across the south coast in that time. As an ECAR Adviser, Bex has experience in delivering training a wide range of ECAR trademarked literacy interventions (Reading Recovery, Boosting Reading @Primary/Secondary, Fischer Family Trust Wave 3, Hi-Five Literacy, Inference Training and Talking Partners) for teachers, teaching assistants and school stakeholders as well as providing bespoke literacy INSET training to schools.

Bex is an accredited Reading Recovery Teacher Leader affiliated to the Institute of Education, University of London where she completed her MA in Literacy Learning and Literacy Difficulties. Her master’s report (2012) looked at how pupils with English as an Additional Language progress in reading/writing and how to support pupils with language barriers to make progress in literacy learning across the curriculum.

Particular interests, which filter directly into Bex’s roles, are in the early development of reading skills and the identification of reading difficulties demonstrated by learner readers in order to support their development into independent confident readers and writers. She is also interested in the importance of speaking & listening and communication skills and the part these crucial skills play in literacy development.

Bex has been an avid supporter of BoostingReading@Primary and @Secondary and led many training sessions. She has seen successful outcomes from the programme across the schools she has trained.

Bex continues to teach and work with children with literacy difficulties in order to put her knowledge and passion for literacy into practise. She finds this a crucial and useful tool in order to provide honest reflective anecdotes when training others.
